Title: JB3 has started to "fail" mid recording, unanswered by FAQ
Post by: jagraham on December 23, 2009, 11:03:39 AM
the last few times ive taken the JB3 out to record, it has failed in the middle of the show.  sometimes i can start it back up and it will be fine from then, sometimes i can't even get it to record.  about a month ago, i was at a show and instead of getting a signal from the mic the levels would go crazy(clipping, erratic drops right after starting to record).  now, the last time i recorded it was fine except a few minutes into the recording time time would simply stop, still appearing to record.  when opened, the file ended at that point with some diginoise.  anyone have any experience with this?  nothing about this in the FAQ.  hopefully my JB3 isnt dying.

PS-i have formatted.

My jb3 does that when i charge it while recording, if you got it plugged into something, either run it with that power with the batteries out or charge during setbreak

also when it overheats it craps out

hope this helps

i loved the jb3 when i started using it, but it seems to be dying on me too, and it is getting harder to get recordings off it with the newer OS

thanks for the input vegeta.  overheating MAY be an issue but im pretty aware of that problem at this point as well.  same with charging while recording, simply too much for the recorder to handle.  JB3 is generally a great product/option for recording but we do have to face the facts that its a discontinued 2002(2003?) MP3 player.

could also be a failing input jack/broken solder joint or if you are using optical in a bad/failing cable

thats also a good point flipp, but it does get a signal from the mics(albeit unreliable).  IMO that still wouldnt explain the recording "freezing" mid show.  to me thats a HD issue even though i cleaned up and formatted the drive.  again, what do i know.  if an input jack is the problem here, im assuming it would be a better choice to just look into a new flash recorder?  anything similar to the JB3 out right now for under 200?  how does the H2 compare as far as power supply?  dont want to get too off topic here but it seems to be a similar niche as the JB3.  thanks for the suggestions!
