FYI. I wonder if this would be good for quick and dirty pulls when you can't carry a lot of gear.

Well, let's see...at 7.5ips, 500 feet / 7.5 inches = 800 seconds of recording. ;D

The announcement is for the second generation of the Mikey.
It works with iPhone or iPod, and includes "a pair of custom-tuned Blue capsules and an optimization for recording high-volume concerts."
The Mikey will be available later this year for about $100. Also coming
is an iPhone app for audio recording called Blue FiRe.
The iPhone won't record at a rate higher than 16/44.1.

any one know if this would work with a Rockbox'ed iPod?
it might be good for random spontaneous recording

The original works well and the new model should be even better.
It won't replace your other gear, but it's very stealthy and if you keep it in your car, you've always got a "decent" recorder nearby.
