Title: Need help with acoustic guitar headphone monitoring
Post by: Kevin Straker on February 26, 2010, 01:58:54 PM
I play guitar in a small group. We do not have a separate monitor mix. When I play acoustic I need a way to monitor in headphones. What are my options? I can buy an SWR Strawberry Blonde and use the headphone out, or just the amp for stage volume. Could I also use a Radial PZ Pre? It does not have a headphone jack, but could I possibly connect to another output? What are my other options?

thanks-kevin

If you can afford it, probably the best thing to do is to get a headphone feed from something like the amp you mention and then get some in-ear monitors. Some of them you can get which have an adjustment where you can control a blend of sound coming from the outside and then you can adjust the instrument level with the headphone signal from the amp too.

Here is a link to one vendor, but I think there are a few that offer this feature:

Great! Will you still have difficulty hearing the amp from the stage position?

Probably not, but it has a headphone out if I need it. I didn't need an amp this big, but sniped some fool on Ebay and got it for 391.00.
