I'd like to switch my jb3 + bb setup to something more stealthy and less fiddly.
Is anyone out there taping rock gigs with 406x's running into a recorder with plug in power?
From what I've read everyone says 5V should be enough... unless 9V is better... so I'm looking for actual experience. I also remember reading a long time ago you could adapt 48V down to the DPA voltage...?

According to Bruce Myers, they should have 9V.
You could run 406x > DPA microdot to XLR adapters (converts 48V > 9V) > XLR to 1/4 > Microtrack, but that would be larger than a battery box.
Chris Church can make his little CA-Ugly preamp with female microdot's if you get the microdot's from DPA and send them to him. That's a pretty small rig if you go into something like a R-09HR, etc.

My 4061's already have an 1/8" jack hacked on.
I'd like to get something like a Marantz 620 or Microtrack and ditch the Battery Box.

Upon further reading it looks like you can get by with 5V...now to find out what recorders REALLY provide 5V.
I'd like to do the same. I'd still run a preamp most of the time, but sometimes it's nice to have a super small rig.
Can anyone measure their Marantz 620'w ACTUAL plugin power?

I'm interested in knowing what the Microtrack voltage is...I own one and hardly ever have to stealth, but it'd be nice to know if I can run a set of 4061s (or, more realistically, a set of CAFS omnis) off of it.

Can anyone measure their Marantz 620'w ACTUAL plugin power?
guysonic measured it at ~4.4 or 4.5V...It's on here somewhere...

Nice! Wonder if things changed with the MTII? M-Audio also makes a 10db pad; wonder if that would help.

FWIW I always used a BB with tiny electret mics when using them. I wanted to guarantee they would not overload. It was a 9 volt BB. I've the XLR's with my 4061's.

My Marantz 620 measured 4.6 V plug in power. I have used a pair of 4061s with it and they performed just fine. It was for a Tricky show, in a large club with a slamming PA system. No distortion problems at all. The BB that Len sells knocks the voltage down to 5.8 V. He claims that is the ideal voltage...where he came by that or why i couldn't tell ya. I can tell you that the 620 will power them just fine on the PIP.

Dont know for shure if its a good idea the plug the DPA 40XX mics direct into any voltage source without a proper designed resistor. DPA 40XX driven with 5 Volt is the absolute minmum. Optimal less clipping ? linear working point for the internal FET is 7.6 V after the resistor feeed by 9 Volt source.
Plugin Power from SONY Videocams & SONY PCM 50 Generally Sony's mic input design mostly supplies ~2.5 volt mic power. For this case use the DPA 4063 BM wich has a 3 Volt optimal working point.

Hi, I just ordered a stereo DPA 4060 set and was wondering if there are connection adapters already made that will convert the mic connectors to 1/8" stereo mini plug compatible with my digital recorders stereo mic inputs. I already have built 9Volt batter boxes that use 1/8" stereo input jacks. So I would like to adapt the DPA 4060 mic ends into this battery box or just be able to plug it into my Sony PCM-D50 or Edirol R09. From the looks of the kit pictures that I ordered, it looks like they only provide normal XLR phantom power adapters that the DPA ends screw into. I want to be able to screw the mic ends into an adapter to use on portable mini recorders 1/8" mini mic jacks. Or if someone knows where I can buy the proper mating DPA connector to wire up my own stereo cables that would be better. Are these DPA connectors called MicroDot? Is that the connector type I need to search for and buy? Anyone been down this path already, I sure would appreciate any info you have.
