Hey All...so I have read that the Unity Gain for the Sony PCM-M10 is 5.5 - 6 on the recording dial.
I guess I have a couple questions about this.
For reference, I use the Church Audio CA-9100 preamp with the M10 and my DPA 4061's running "Line In".
1.) Is the true Unity Gain 5.5 - 6 on the recording dial?...Just want to be sure ::)
2.) Would there be adverse conditions if I ran the M10 at a 1 - 2 on the recording dial so I could crank the gain on the 9100 preamp? I thought someone mentioned brickwalling might be an issue...but I have never had a brickwalled recording ever since I started taping many years ago...so I thought that may not be correct????
3.) Does the unity gain only pertain to when I am running "Line In"?
Any info that folks can provide would be great.
Thanks

I'd suggest using "4" on the dial as a starting point for correct gain staging when using line in.
