Hey,
I am trying to set my new JB3 up to record through a UA5. All I get is silence.
Here's what I have done or set up...
UA5:
XLR mic (In)
Optical (Out)
Optical Switch (On)
ADV switch (On)
Recording source (Both digital & Acoustic)
Sample Rate (44.1)
Input Mode (Stereo)
JB3:
Line-In Recording (WAV, 44.1)
Optical Recording (WAV)
I am using a TOSlink to a mini-plug from the UA5 to the JB3
Am I missing something??
Thanks in advance!
Mike

Turn off the ADV switch. If I recall correctly, ADV on = 24-bit, ADV off = 16-bit.

When I record do I want to use the Line In Record or the Optical Record option?

If you're going optical-in (you are), use Optical Record. If you're running an analog signal directly into the JB3, use Line In Record.

OK. Does the UA5 need to be digi-modded? I am going straight Optical from UA5 into mini-plug JB3

If the UA5 has NOT had a digi-mod performed, it will not output an optical signal unless the UA5 is also connected to a computer via USB. In order to output optical in stock form, the signal must follow this path:
Analog in > gain > ADC > USB out to PC > USB in from PC > optical out
The digi-mod enables the following signal paths so they operate simultaneously:
Analog in > gain > ADC > optical out
Analog in > gain > ADC > coax out
Analog in > gain > ADC > USB out
However, the mod removes the ability to run PC > USB > UA5 > playback system. If the UA5 was originally purchased from the Oade Bros, they'll modify it for a small fee. Alternatively, there are DIY instructions in the Archival Info forum.
