Hi -
I just got a new micro sd card for my TASCAM DR-08, it's a Kingston 8GB, Class4.
When I try to do a full format, it seems to take forever - I mean like 5 hours + and never finishes...I can get it to format on a 'quick format' but then if I run at 24/48, it says the total time for the card is 02.04.12, which isn't much more than my 2GB card.
I tried doing a full format on the 2GB card that came with the unit, and the same thing - it never finishes formatting.
Anyone seen this problem???
I'm willing to be that the time it gives you is the time for the 2GB limit.
I'm under the impression that this recorder has seemless splits @ 2GB.
So you should have about 4X that amount of time to record with.
I think my DR-07 does that.
Yep that's pretty much the 2gb limit, so I did guess that. I will test it and try it with another card just to be sure.
Thanks Mike
My DR-07 does that as well - every time I start a new recording it shows the time left for a 2GB file, even when I have a 8GB card in it and already have files on it, so this confirms what Mike is saying.

Sorry for the looooong bump, but I'm having this problem just as we speak. The DR-08 is stuck at formatting a standard 2GB micro-SD and it's been like that for the past 30 minutes; I now see it's a recurrent error.
What I'm wondering is - will the card/recorder/something suffer any damages if I turn it off right now while it's still (supposedly) formatting?
Sergio, just do a quick format and you will be fine ;)

Yes, I supposed that, but I had
already selected a full format and the thing was stuck so I was panicking that the card or the recorder might get damaged. Luckily it has turned out fine, I removed the batteries, put them back again, turned on the device and did a quick format - everything's working fine.
Not nice that "full formats" give a recurrent error though.

My experience with the DR-08 is that it is one of the more finicky decks when it comes to the cards that it likes. It is the only deck I own that uses SDHC micro. That said, it is prudent with this deck to stay away from the full format. I have found on many of my Tascam decks the full format takes hours with a 16gb card.
Wonder why there is even an option to do a full format when a quick format does the job?
My Tascam DR-5 had also issues with cards, like never stopping full format or crashing during recording. now i use the SDHC cards from the official tascam list with no issues
Necroposting for future readers (as I was): full formatting can take a VERY long time, but it will eventually finish.
I thought my DR-05 was stuck formatting a 16GB Class10 SD card, but after two or three hours, it completed successfully. I bet a Class4, like OP's, could take much longer.
