Title: DPA 4061 > -?- > iriver ihp-120
Post by: loul69 on May 07, 2010, 04:54:36 AM
Hi,

What should be the best pre or bbox with these mics avec recorder?
I can build it by myself if someone have a schematic.

Thanks a lot,

Bye

How do the 4061's terminate?

They are terminated with one mini xlr, but it is not a problem, i can put any connector.

If you reterminate to 1/8 or 2 mini-XLR's you can use them with a Church Audio ST-9100 preamp with the appropriate inputs. I would recommend a pre rather than a battery box with 4061's unless you record nothing but very loud stuff. The 4061's are not very sensitive and can require a lot of gain from the recorder or preamp. You do not want to crank the iHP-120's gain above 24 (some even say 15) or it can start to get noisy. I've made great recording with the DPA 4060 series > ST-9100 > iHP-120 with the iHP's gain at 10 to start and the safety clip feature on to prevent possible overloading.

Not a DIY solution, but another option is probably the upcoming Naiant tinybox:

It's not quite on the market yet, but should be pretty soon.  You might want to chime in to the above thread or check with Jon/mshilarious, but I'd imagine the tinybox should be able to support the DPA 4061's, esp if they aren't terminated with microdots.

Hi, I don't know if you (the OP) is still around but there is another discussion thread in the mic section that addresses your question.  It has posts showing you the battery box schematic and the old XLR adapter schematic from DPA.  I built my own DPA 406x battery box from this schematic (it is actually a pretty standard battery box design common to many mics) and the box works really well.  Here is the original thread link if you are still interested in DIY...  http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=132627.0
