it would be nice if that bar would 'swivel' at the 2 points where those lines are on the bar. That way, you could adjust for din and ortf.

well,
i wasn't entirely satisfied with the argument and the drawngs.  i KNEW in my mind that it was 110*.  i figured that once i got a stc bar i'd check for myself.  glad i kept my mouth shut :-X

oh yeah--i ddin't mean for it to be a topic.  i thought it could be a good reference picture for those who are not certain as i was.

Definitely clear in the pic!  Thanks for posting as a reference, DA.

I think the easiest alternative for "v" users would be to get a stock bar 35cm long, drill holes half way through the bar with the same diameter as the kc5 cable attachment at 15, 10, and 8.5 cm from right of center and mirror the same holes to the left of the corresponding center.  Then, use a circular saw with a blade the width of the kc5 cable linking the left holes and then linking the right holes.  You would then have a bar that could do NOS, DIN, ORTF and hold the capsules verticle.

Kwon has mentioned that he could do it, but no one seems to push him.

if i can find the bar i'll start work on something.  i didn't look too hard the other day at home depot, but i wonder if they'd have something like that.  where would someone find a bar similar to the stc ( stock so i could cut it )?

PM Kevin Straker on this board.  He brought over about 10' of the uncut stock bar to my house.  He had lofty intentions of getting some more bars built, but I haven't seen anything develop.  If he doesn't answer, let me know and I'll get in touch with him...

Did my post make sense?  Keep us posted on how it comes along.

The diaphragm's pickup follows the path of the blue arrow that is drawn on the paper.  They are intended to be oriented the same way as Large Diaphragm mics a la u89 or adk51's

that's makes more sense. so what do 4v users do for true ORTF or DIN?

They run the full bodies and run the verticle

i don't mean to drag this out anymore than need be, but---

after looking at the picture again i'm thinking that if the caps rotated an additional 40* so that they were 110* from each other rather than 70* there would be a huge "shadow" from the bar and the cap housing.  that's gotta have sort of affect on the sound--dontcha think?

wboswell--i'd be interested in a chunk of that bar you mentioned.  what is the stc made of anyway?  where should one look for something like this?

i would be interested in that material as well. and there is a shadowing effect, don't know what effect this has sonically.

I agree totally.  If you increased the angles on each end by another 20º (for a net 40º), the kc5 attachment, bar, and the capsule body would definately be in front of the diaphragm.  While it may not have a massive effect on sound, it certainly couldn't improve it.

The material feels just like a solid plastic tube.  The only thing special about the schoeps bar is the nextel grey coating...  I'll be in touch with Kevin shortly as he has some gear to return to me anyway.  I'll find out where he got it.

Some chic taper that uses the 4Vs out in Los Angeles got in touch with me about the 4V bar...out in production and will be ready within two weeks...that's all the push I needed (or she did...) ;D

Hey, if that's all it takes, how about I give my push for getting to the DIN bar for Neumann ak40 caps?   :)  Now that I've managed to lose the ORTF bar and am stuck with XY I'm really interested.

So get to it soon--or I'll be forced to go to Home Depot and kluge together something that will be very embarassing.   :P

I'm on my third delay of this and Frank is getting on my case :-\ ;)
The final bar is being machined and will be getting those for testing (this is the third proto run).  What seems tricky with the neumanns is that rubber sleeve covering the end of the termination...there are issues with making something that cuts it too close pulling that sleeve off which would not be good for product liability :o

On top of that, I'm on the cusp of finishing the cruise project which has sponge'd all my time as of late...

Thanks for the patience!
