We're new to the world of compact flash recorders and need some advice before we purchase. We'll be using it for primarily for field recording interviews for radio and sometimes for video production for dual recording setup. We already have a Sound Devices MM-1 and so we're really looking for a recorder that will work well with the MM-1 output. We definitely want a limiter on board but other than that, we're open to suggestions. It would also be nice if the unit is capable of single channel recording in order to maximize memory... but not necessary. Budget is $500.
Thanks for you help

memory is cheap, don't sweat it.

I recommend the Sony pcm-m10 with 4 gigs of internal memory. at 44.1/16 that will give almost 7 hours of audio recording and you can easily upgrade to a 16 gig micro SD card for $40 with shipping giving you a little under 34 hours of recording at 44.1/16.
what kind of microphones are you planning on using?
you can also consider the edirol r-09hr which uses full sized SD cards, the fostex fr-2LE (although this would probably be the least practical as you won't really need the xlr in). The 2le takes Compact flash cards, fyi.

We'll be using Shure headset mic for radio interviews and Sony ECM-55b lav mic for video
