hello I picked up a recording my buddy did for me and some how he managed to get the left side louder then the right side. The left side is around -3 and doesn't dip any lower then -6 depending on the song..the right side is between -9 and -12 again depending on the song. I have sound forge and audacity but I'm not quite sure how to fix this.

Easy, just boost the quieter side to match the louder:
Open the recording in SoundForge.
Select (highlight) the entire right channel.
Process> Volume and add +6db
Pretty sure Volume is found under Process... don't have SF on my computer here at work.
