Title: V2 or Mini-MP to run w/MBHO's and OCM PMD 661?
Post by: MBHOTAPER on June 07, 2010, 04:14:54 PM
I was just wondering if anyone has experience running both pres and the pro's and con's of each unit. I was thinking of a V3 however the boards show a lot of good feedback w/the OCM PMD 661 and wasn't sure if the V3's ad would really be that much better than the PMD 661 - since it also costs an additional few hundred dollars vs using the mini-mp or v2. It also appears those who own the mini-mp are rarely ever willing to sell/give them up.

Thanks,

I'd say that it all depends on your sound tastes.  I'd think that the MMP should provide a little fatter bottom end, which seems like it might compliment your MBHO's nicely.  The V2, I'd think would accentuate what the MBHO's already do well, which is crystal clean high end, so not sure if that would be too much.  Based on my own personal tastes, I'd personally choose the MMP as a first choice to go with your MBHO's.  I can't really comment on the OCM 661 since I've never owned one.

MMP for sure, if you can find one. It may be the best sounding pre I've ever owned.

I'm going to run my recently purchased mini-mp this week for the first time for a few shows of p-groove in fl.  ;D I'm looking forward to hearing how the mp sounds w/my ho's and ocm pmd 661. I've searched and found a few posts from a few tapers that had the same sentiment that you have - possibly the best straight pre out there.

One really good deal in this trade was the taper that sold it to me used the $ for buying his own set of ho's and activators. It's cool when things work out! :D

Thanks for the 2 cents guys,

V3 and OCM PMD 661 !

the PMD661 has a digi in, you could use it as a bit bucket for open recording or something you wanted the V3 flavor from.
and you could use the PMD661 solo if you wanted a smaller footprint/lighter bag for certain shows.

I have had MBHOs, a V2, and MMP at some point in the past.  If it were me I would put the MMP with the Ho's.
