Title: Sony m10 file "protect on" > mac > can't unlock, or do anything with file ...
Post by: BusDriver on June 12, 2010, 06:44:12 PM
i'm fairly new to digital recording and computer editing ( laugh if you need to 'cause i'll be asking for some help there, too) ... but, i transferred many files into the mac with the file protect 'on' and can do nothing with those files, including delete or copy back to the m10 to unlock the protection.

How can the protection be 'unlocked' on the mac?

hey, i'm trying to get off the bus for awhile.

try this.... Right click on the file (apple click) > get info, at the bottom there should be a "permissions" tab. check that and make sure it is set to be able to modify. After you set all the permissions see if it will open..... If not, try making a simple copy of the file on your computer with copy > paste. Seems like I have had this problem with a few files transferred from data DVD's. If that does not work try the "team mac" section of this board. They have saved me a few times!

hey,

big thanks. it was 'get info' > then simply uncheck the locked file option.

i can find needles in haystacks. i can find obscure addresses from podunk to buried alleyways, but am seriously challenged when trying to navigate unfamiliar software.  even audacity is presenting a steep learning curve. only six months ago i got the hang of flac > aiff conversions.

there are real dangers too many years behind the wheel ...........
