Post by: Big Perm on June 30, 2010, 01:22:34 PM
ANYONE HAVE THIS PROBLEM...I CAN FIGURE OUT WHY IT IS DOING THIS....RUNNING CA-14 CARDS > CA-9100> R-09HR
I THINK I HAVE ALL OF THE SETTING CORRECT....USING LITH. BATTERIES...DONT THINK THAT WOULD MATTER,

OPEN TO ANY AND ALL SUGGESTIONS PLEASE. MY BUDDY IS ATTEMPTING TO RUN THIS SET UP TONIGHT AND WOULD LIKE TO FIX PROBLEM ASAP

Problem with your card perhaps? Have you tried other cards?

Or if you are recording at 24/96, even if the card is compatible, there is a possibility that it is too slow.

This is a stretch but try moving the preamp away from the edirol.. I dont think that is the problem because the HR is very quiet.

friend of mine had this issue a wee ago, card was the culprit, make sure your using one that is a high enough class, and thats compatable with the R-09, his was not. Soon as he got the right card, perfect again.

def. not the problem, get same noise when using internal mics and CA gear not even hooked up (and placed far away in back pack ;D)

I see then I would have to agree with others that its a card issue.. I would try another one.

my buddy bought the cards ( who knows where ) and both are giving him problems.  He put in a Kodiak SDHC #2 8gb and everything is working fine now.  Anyone that uses the r-09hr have any suggestions on cards to use?  Might as well stick with Kodiak if that what this machine likes

Do you still get the problem at 24/44.1 or in the 16bit range? Just thinking if it was data rate dependant (the card can't keep up), then you would probably have less of an issue as the rate goes down.

Hmm, I thought they had an approved card list, must be thinking of another recorder unless someone else can point it out. I use transcend Class 6 cards with no problem, if your using  lower class cards, thats probably your issue. John, my friends would not work with a transcend class 2 card.

I'm not sure, but I think the 1 & 2 on the cards may be class 1 and class 2, neither of which I would use. I use Kingston class 4 cards exclusively and have only had one report as too slow once. After reformatting the card in the deck it was fine.  ALWAYS format your cards in the Edirol before using and relying on them!

If you'd like, I'll loan you one of my 4GB class 4 Kingston cards to try out and see if it solves the problem. PM me your mailing address if you want me to send it out to you. I, personaly, would never rely on cards of unknown origin. No matter how good the mics, pre and deck are, how great your cables are, if your card fails it's all in vain!

Edit to add, there's a compatable list for the R-09, but I can't find anything for the HR. The R-09 list as of August 1st, 2008
is http://www.roland.com/products/en/SD_R-09.html (http://www.roland.com/products/en/SD_R-09.html)

If you are now using old firmware, try to update Latest versions..
card problems might be solved

+1.

24/48 should be doable (based on spec) on a Class 2 card so the firmware is a good place to start.  I'm sure I'll find out soon enough as I ordered a 32GB card off eBay (class 2) for my R09.

let me know how that works out, it says in the manual it works with up to 8gb cards....

You can't always rely on the printed manual after updating your firmware. Firmware version 1.31 allows the R-09 to use 16/32 GB cards.

As mentioned by fmadejr - Firmware 1.31 allows 32GB cards without issue.  ;)

I'm just curious to the speed of the card I bought. I'll likely place it in my PC and copy an 8-10GB file back and forth to get an idea of what it's like.
