Title: Recommendation for DAT-to-WAV transfer service
Post by: moxiecat on July 13, 2010, 04:19:23 PM
Hello everyone,

Full disclosure: This is cross-posted on the etree.org forum, but a helpful member recommended that I may have more luck here--so here I am.

I run a DVD transfer company. We were recently tasked with a job we cannot handle: transferring 6 DAT audio tapes to WAV files. (It is part of a larger job of converting VHS tapes to AVIs, which we can do.)

I found the etree.org DAT conversion FAQ, which states "If I have a DAT tape, but no way to get it onto CD, are there people who are willing to do the conversion for me? -- Yes, there are plenty of people around that are willing to help out with DAT > CD transfers. We'll have a list of people here soon."

We prefer to use personal recommendations when possible when outsourcing clients' work (rather than random companies found online). But we've had a lot of trouble finding a reputable company for this job. One local guy can't capture the DAT digitally, only analog. Another won't get back to us since the first e-mail. It's quite frustrating. And after reading the etree FAQ, we realize how important it is to find a company that has the right equipment and know-how (and we realized we can't do it ourselves!)

Can someone on this forum recommend a good, reputable company for DAT-to-WAV conversions? Hopefully I am not in violation of any forum rules by posting a business-related question; if so, I apologize.

Hoping someone will be able to help. Thank you very much!

synchronicity

A connecting principle
Linked to the invisible
Almost imperceptible
Something inexpressible
Science insusceptible
Logic so inflexible
Causally connectable
Yet nothing is invincible
