Hello, does anyone have any suggestions for an external VU meter to monitor peak levels on a UA-5? thanks
the Beachtech SVU1 was a TS favorite/popular option when UA5 > JB3 was a widely used rig
do a search for SVU1, they pop up in the yardsale occasionally
Most people use the meters on the recorder/bitbucket. For instance H120's with Rockbox have good meters. The notable exception is the JB3, which has pretty tiny meters, then the SVU1 becomes handy.
As a point of reference, it's generally agreed the red light on the UA-5 comes on at around -3 db (maybe -2). So if that just flickers once in a while you are good. If it's on steady, you are too hot.
Awesome thanks for input.
i use my d8 for meters when recording to my jb3.
like admkrk, I used an old d7 for a level meter - good for nothing else other than eating dats...
Definitly, I used to use the Sony WMD3 for the longest time, I guess I just dig havin big led's show me were my levels are. Like Bob Dylan said "the times they are a changing".

Regarding Beachteks and the UA-5...the times they changed about four or five years ago... ;) ;)
I've got a Beachtek SVU1 I could sell you if you're interested. Just pm me if you are interested.
