Post by: OOK on August 08, 2010, 07:06:03 AM
Been thinking about getting an MP3 player.  But need a good conversion program.  How good is the MP3 conversion on TLH?

Thanks OOK

I haven't used the TLH converter, so can't answer your question.  However, if you google 'free mp3 converter' you'll get a couple hits on some freeware.  The one I recently saw lets you select the amount of mp3 compression you want.  For my own listening, I think that the higher compression settings muck up the sound too much, but the settings that don't compress as much don't sound bad at all.

TLH uses the newest LAME encoder which is the best out there. I would recommend using that and compressing to V0 (highest quality).

Some info on LAME:  http://lame.sourceforge.net/

technically speaking, 320 kbps CBR is higher quality than any VBR setting (even V0).  but it's almost a moot point, because you'd be hard pressed to tell any difference between 320 kbps and V0.
