Title: alkaline v. lithium

yea, I've read all the instructions and shit, but is it considered a no-no to use lithium batteries in a portable DAT?  I havent read anything about what kind of negative effects it could have and the extra battery life is obviously appealing.

scuse me if this is dumb question, but this is probably the best place to ask.

I don't know of any ill effects..  I used lithiums in my dat all the time with no problems.

Most folks just toss small lithiums, like AA's or AAA's in the trash..  Battery stores, like batteries plus or eq. offer disposal at a small fee.

The only "problem" with lithiums in your DAT is that Lithiums discharge rate is different than alkaline's or standard rechargeables.  Basically, your battery meters will be showing full one moment, the next it will be dead.  No warning when those things are about to run out.

but theyre gonna run for a good 3-4 times longer than normal batteries, which negates having to bring extra batteries w/you just in case.

Just curious, are rechargeables prone to a quick discharge (dying prematurely) when taken out in the cold?
