Title: Wubi Installer for Ubuntu?
Post by: OFOTD on August 16, 2010, 05:51:12 PM
http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/windows-installer

So if I am understanding the Ubuntu website correctly by installing Ububtu through the Wubi installer it should install just a like a Windows program correct?   I assume it cuts out the need for VMWare and the like?

Anyone with any experience with this method of installing Ubuntu?

I think it just creates its own partition and allows you to dual boot. I do  not believe this allows you to run ubuntu inside a windows environment but I have yet to try it myself. It talks about 'selecting which operating system at system boot'. I think it just makes the partitions for you and installs it on its own partition.

I believe that is only a normal dual-boot install.

Check Virtualbox instead is my suggestion. This will run Linux in a "sandbox" that emulates a full computer. Alternative is VmWare that does the same thing. Both are available as free downloads for a private user. I run VirtulBox and has been very happy with that. Never used it for sound editing / sound recording though, no experience there.

Alternative might be this,  never tried though. It runs Linux as a windows program.
