Title: Recommendations on fixing a 722 power cable
Post by: gewwang on August 19, 2010, 03:40:11 PM
My 722 cable has always had some sort of loose connection but it's finally not working at all.

Is it worth fixing since I use it on the field 99% of the time or should I just get an external battery charger?

If so, is anyone available to fix mine for a fee?

If not, is there any recommendation on a good charger?

Send them an email. They replaced mine free of charge despite it being out of warranty.

Awesome, I will take you up on your generous offer.

SD did get back to me, basically said to buy one from one of their resellers. I didn't really feel like paying for another one knowing johnw got one for free and after my only other experience with their support was a bad one.

Thanks. It's not that I doubt they have great support, I guess my calls just go to the wrong employees.

It's worth that small tradeoff for what I get out of their products.

You need the cable at least once a month. The internal battery that keeps the clock running is only charged when the 722 is charged. Otherwise the machine will ask for date and time on every startup. Been there. Additionally, I had to change the battery -- a standard 1,5V rechargeable and a bit fiddly to put it togehter again.

Just saw this, glad Crumbo got you an extra.  Same thing happened to me, I called SD, they sent me a free replacement even though I was out of warranty.  In fact, they sent two extras, so I have a spare as well if that doesn't work out.
