So I made my first recording the other night with my rig
CA-1 > Custom BB > Olympus LS-10
It was a small venue, with terrible acoustics and a pretty bad sound system. I was about 3 - 4m from the stage, slightly right of centre.
The right channel picked up a lot of the drunk chat from a group of girls near me...
For my first ever stealth pull, I'm extremely happy, however I was wondering if anyone had any tips/advice after listening to a sample from the show.
I'll be recording a few more artists in the coming weeks, in the same venue, and others very similar.

The recording sounds great to my ears.
You can try to reduce the BASS. That way the vocals and instruments my be clearer but it will lose some of the live show effect.
I couldn't really hear the drunk girls that were to your right. If it really bothers you, you can probably change the balance between the two channels so instead of being 50%-50% it will be 60%-40% or even 70%-30% in favor of the left channel.

I think it's a very good recording. The female lead vocal is a problem, which I guess is true for many such bands; their voices being of higher frequencies and more likely to clash with string instruments. I quickly looked at track 3 and yes, the bass is prominent, but mainly because everything above about 700Hz rolls off dramatically, except for a peak in the female vocal range. Looks like the sound guy has left the bass, boosted the vocal a bit and suppressed other frequencies I find HarBal invaluable in these situations as it can tame the shrillness and restore a more natural balance. But, the downside is the women you mention become more noticeable. I think the solution to that may be illegal in Oz; unfortunately it is here.

I just ran the recording through Harbal, sounds much nicer and more natural now. The vocals were even mixed in pretty well afterwards.

With all this above, I would have moved back and used a cardioid capsule mic. Unless you are right on top of one of the mains, with the omni's you'll be picking up the poor acoustics and more of the chatty cathy's.

Im yet to find a super stealthy card capsule though. Unfortunately all the venues I tape in are VERY anti taping. Anyone seen with anything at all is thrown out on their ass. Thats why the CA-1's are great for me. I can mount them in a shirt and you cant even see them.
