Title: running a v2...any suggestions?
Post by: save on February 12, 2004, 08:06:34 PM
hopefully tomorrow i'll get a chance to test out my v2.  the post office delivered it today and i wasn't home so i have to pick it up @ the post office tomorrow after work.  so i won't have much time to play around w/ it before i tape.  i'm getting a sla battery w/ it to, and was wondering how i can find out if it's charged or not?

i've never run or seen a v2 so i know nothing about it.  any tips on setting and how high to run gain on my v2 would be great!  hopefully i'll have my sbm-1 tomorrow so i'll be running tl's > v2 > mod sbm-1 fyi.

thanks,
justin

i run the same combo but with audio technica 4051a's, best way is to run the sbm1 at 9-10 and the v2 with as much gain as necessary to get that kind of level on the sbm1

I ran the same combo for awhile, ran it the same way, as long as the sbm-1 is above 5 you should be fine, that way you can run the V2 hotter if you want, play with it, see what sounds best to your ears.

I would tend to agree after running a V2 and V3 for awhile. Get the sbm-1 above 5, that is all you need to worry about.

why is that???

is it because if its lower than 5, theres not much sbm-1 a/d to it???

bean from what doug has posted in the past, sony portable dat's & the sbm-1 will cause distortion if set at 4 or below.  i'm assuming that's what creek is talking about.

+t for all the tips guys.  got the v2 here playing w/ it now!  now just waiting for the damn sbm1 to arrive  ::)

correct. I have had mine at 4, usually ok, but when you get to 3 or lower, things can sound pretty interesting....

the sbm1 should be run as wide open as possible.  it adds a fixed amount of gain and then uses a resistor to reduce the amount of gain applied.  the resistor can introduce some noise.  so when run at 10, the resistor is essentially off, adding no noise.  when the sbm1 is run at 3, the resistor is adding in a lot of noise.  the v2 works on a similar technology with its gain knobs and trim pots.  the trim pots act as a resistor.  so it possible, get the gain set as close to the way you want it using the big knobs, with the trim pots set as wide open as you can.

i see what you guyz are saying!!!

but ive personally never heard ANY noise introduced by thev2/3 trimpots :)
