Title: What company should I use to buy a new Mic?
Post by: jbell on September 23, 2010, 06:06:50 PM
I recently grabbed a rode mic for a really good price off ebay and need a mate.  I know if you call companies they will give you a better deal than internet pricing.  I was thinking Full Compass, but wanted to see if anyone has other suggetions.  Thanks in advance

I don't anything about who carries Rode or not, but BH Photo and Sweetwater are decent retailers. I've always been happy with them.

EDIT: I agree with checking out Full Compass too. I've been happy with them as well.

I just got off the phone with a sweetwater tech and he was more than helpful and knowledgeable. I didn't buy anything but if I decide to get a mic, it will be through them. I have completed a lot of transactions with b&h and never spoken to anyone and there's no personalization with them. B&H is a MUCH larger company with a huge stock but often times their website won't allow orders because of various holidays.

I know full compass carries the NT6 mics for sure.  I guess it would be smart to just contact all of them and see who will give the best price.  I'll look into the other companies, thanks stu

Call Full Compass talk to Adam EX 1386.  He'll give you a great price and great service.

Internet pricing at B&H, Full compass, and sweetwater are the same.  Looks like I need to give them all a call

I just sold my Avantone CK1 mics yesterday, so I only have the Naks cm300 & one NT6 on the way.  I wasn't planning on buying anything new, but the deal on the NT6 was to good to pass up.  I want to get away from the full body mics.  Actually Busman still has my Naks so I might have the NT6 mics up and running before I get my Naks back.

Yeah call Adam will beat on line pricing.  I dunno what the Nt6 goes for but I just happened to get an NT5 price from him.  Matched pair was $364.  I'd guess the percentage of discount would be about the same.  I think they are closed for today.

In what country are you in?  You don't say.   ???

Suggesting dealers is no help to you without knowing the country you are in.

No knock on the others mentioned but I have gotten great service from Sweetwater.  They're very personable and are cool about calling you on the phone to discuss your order, even if you do not ask them to.  B&H are an extremely efficient operation - not much in the way of the personal touch, but they get you the gear and get you the right price.  Also, the actual store in NYC is worth seeing... one of the craziest operations I've seen.
