Title: Is it time for new cables?
Post by: super-phat-al on February 14, 2004, 01:36:36 PM
Ive been putting this off for awhile.  Current rig:

oktava MK-012>DMIC-20 (todd-mod)>d8

i am currently using generic whirlwind cables.  Am i gonna hear a difference in quality if i jump up to canare quad with gold nuetrik connectors?  If im not mistaken i can do this for about $45 through markertek.

Depends on your playback system, but I would say the difference is negligible.

I used generic cables for like a year and a half with my first rig (akg c1000s>ad20>d8), then for one show once I upgraded to mbhos>v2...then I got a pair of audio magic x-streams...I can't really tell a difference.

It's sort of like the 90 meter tape debate...some people say they've ran them for years with no problems, others experience trouble right away. It's a peace of mind thing as much as anything else.

save your 45, invest it in some new mics eventually
