I'm looking at buying a flat panel as my monitor is going downhill quickly. I've had it for 6 years so its getting that time to replace it.

That's what im looking at- should i be looking for anything in particular- i dont play games other than card games on my comp, so stuff like that isnt an issue

I cannot speak for this monitor exactly but the generic LCD's tend to not have as crisp of picture, a clunkier chassis and a short life expectancy. I would drop 20-30 more dollars and get one of last years samsung or viewsonic models.

I just got an Envision 17" flatpanel and have been nothing but please with it. Not sure if that's considered "generic" or not, but it works for me...

i have 2 17 inch crt's in the attic. nokia 447xi plus and 447 ziplus(i think, i can look up the exact model at home). if you want one, pay for shipping and it's yours. not a flat panel, but it could be a 17 incher for like 25 bucks

i really want to make the move to flat panel. one of the issues im running into with my monitor now is that it takes up a TON of room on my desk, i need to get something with a really small footprint.

i have had 15" Realsync for over a year. Looks great, only wish it was 17"+

yah im now looking at 17 and bigger. i wish i could afford the apple cinema monitor, we have a few at the office, man are they sweet

so true. I would highly recommend going to stores and seeing the monitors hooked up to a computer and turned on before buying one. there is definitely a big difference between them...

Ditto to both going to the store to check 'em out in person, as well as the MultiSync. My g/f Jen just got - free!, as her pop works for CTX Europe - a 23" CTX flat panel. I don't know what model it is, but man is it HUGE and sweet. After using her 23" for a bit, I'm having a tough time going back to 17". :-\

i think my final decision will be for one of the apple cinema displays. they are really pricey but man they are excellent, not to mention really pretty looking too.

Apple displays are the tops, looking at one on my workspace right now.
Just in case, though, you can get an $799 computer from dell that has a free 17" flat screen. (For those of you doing the math, that's about $400 for a P4 2.7gHz with a 40gig HD , firewire card, USB 2.o and some software you probably don't need.
If the deal is off for the moment, it will be back within the month. They go back and forth with this one.
Just another route...

yah i get the education discount from apple- its a really nice discount. especially since im getting a powerbook in the near future :-) Expect to see me with 48 channel capabilities in the near future in the field :D
