Title: Mic W, cardiod mic. Any good?
Post by: nicegrin on October 22, 2010, 09:15:37 AM
Hi all!

Stumbled up on this low pro cardiod mic looking through the selection at full compass

http://www.fullcompass.com/product/384085.html

Is it any good?

How does it compare to simalar sized mics in the same price range (i.e. Milab VM 44 links, Beyerdynamic CK930, etc...)?

Anyone knows where to find samples?

Thanks!
N

Interesting, never heard of it before, pretty expensive though.  It kind of looks like a lemo connector on the back but it doesn't say if the cable is detacheable or not.

I saw the Mic W line as well.  Kinda look like a china made DPA knock off line.....

^^ Exactly.  These are DPA knockoffs.  The problem is that they are not a lot cheaper than the DPA, at least for the bare capsules.  The advantage these have is they have P48 power supplies with detachable heads for them.  And they have cardioid versions, which are pretty rare in measurement capsules.  I would love to hear these.

If you want omni measurement capsules (eg., 1/2" or 12mm, that I have been looking at), there are lots of options, including DPA, G.R.A.S. (both Denmark) and Aco-pacific (Japan), Geffel (Germany).  DPA and G.R.A.S. are around $1000 each, while Aco-pacific are about $600.  Not sure on the Geffel price.
