Title: file size
Post by: willndmb on November 06, 2010, 12:51:31 PM
how is this possible...
i have 2 recordings from the same night
both are 24/48
one is "complete" and 3.05gb
one is "broken (2gb file split) 2.15gb and 915.1mb
when i combine the "broken" files and save it as one file the total size is 2.04gb
i am not changing the sample rate or anything in audacity
if i open the saved file which is now complete it says it is 24/48 still but the size is much smaller

EDIT - upon dithering and resample BOTH seem correct 1.87 and 1.88gb
so i am not sure why the file size is dropping on the "broken" file but all seems fine in the end

The wave file format has a 4GB limit, but some apps can be 2GB. This is a restriction of a 32 bit OS.  2^32 = 4,294,967,296

I'm up against the same problem. Whatever you do, don't delete the originals before you determine if the combined file is complete.
