SPDIF is often mention in postingsbut I do not really understant what it means.
Is it an an input or output or both (totally confused ???)?
What is its advantages?

For tapers, the advantage of a digital input is you can bypass the possibly lower quality analog front end of a recorder and feed it high quality sound from another device. i.e. use a cheap handheld just to write numbers to flash from an expensive mic-amp/ADC.
