Title: new affordable Royer?

Anyone heard much about it?  Looks like they can be had for around 650 a piece.     :hmmm:

Yeah, but this is a ribbon mic.  It's not going to have a response up to 20kHz. 

I'm pretty sure you could classify Royer as "upper end".   ;)

Not a bad warranty either:

Like all Royer mics, the R-101 comes with a lifetime warranty to the original owner and the first re-ribbon is free.

even this: http://www.royerlabs.com/SF-24.html (http://www.royerlabs.com/SF-24.html)  its' Frequency Response: 40-15,000 Hz +/- 2dB  check out the tracks of the Wailin' Jennys - they sound killer!
I do know I have seen a couple of ribbobn mics that are 20 to 20k - somewhere....

Ok, that is incredible!!!

The sound is transparent and natural.  The image is excellent.

One stereo mic.  Why does anyone bother close mic'ing instruments and all the usual studio tricks ??

I have an engineer friend who has used these and he says they are almost identical sounding to the 121. 
A couple years ago we did a mic shootout on a string quartet with about 6 different pairs of mics including some 121's in blumlein.
They were, without a doubt, the most natural gorgeous sounding pair...and we had some other great mics in the mix, including cmc6/mk4's, km84's, senn mkh's, and even an LSD2 for fun.

Just throwing it out there, but I bet this mic would be a huge winner for acoustic music.

Oh man I love me some Wailin Jenny's.  They are the best.  That stereo mic is what I dream of owning.  Sick recordings.  I'm just shocked you can get a pair of these for the cost of 1 R121.

Ribbon mics have never been about a wide frequency response but rather their midrange magic and what they do really well.  That being said, there are a few newer ones that give you full range. Oktava ML53's with the improved transformer is suppose to be really nice. They use shorter daul ribbon to achieve a wider frequency response.
