Now I know this is probably a stupid question, I know the pins look the same between XLR and AES/EBU... but I have no idea what the difference is between them.
Long story short, I was wondering if I could go digi-out from the Fostex D5 into the mic input (XLR) on the Mbox 2 Mini, for a quick DAT conversion? I've got a Fostex D5 with XLR Outs / Toslink / and AES/EBU output(s) and I've got an older MacMini I was using as a DAW and thought I could make use of the Mbox 2 Mini (since it's just sitting on the shelf), what are people using for DAT conversions these days?
Option #1: Fostex D5 -> AES/EBU -> Digidesign Mbox 2 Mini (XLR input) -> MacMini
Option #2: Fostex D5 -> Toslink -> MacMini
Wow, I'm feeling old and out of the loop.... I'm getting some DDS drives off ebay (thanks Richard) but wanted to take a stab at some transfers before those got here...

You can't go digital out -> mic in for a quick conversion. For dat conversions these days I use the Fostex D5 (toslink) -> iRiver hp120

Do option 2
I do not think the Mac resamples - and you can xfer using Audacity for free.
