Title: LaCie d2 Harddrives (firewire)

Ok folks,

I just got one of these in the mail today for a transfer project and I am at a loss at what to do.  When I first plugged it in, it worked and I could see all the promo programs on the drive.  Now after a few re-boots, I can't see the drive anymore.  Any help, if it is obvious, I am all ears.  Thanks.

try the plug-play method - unlplug and replug while your computer is up
also see if you can download newer drivers for your firewire card

I know it's silly, but try a different firewire port, and make sure, if it is on a PCI card that you didn't inadvertently unseat the card somehow.

thanks for the suggestions.  i am using the only 4 pin firewire port on the computer, so the other firewire option is a no go.

also the firewire is not a card, but built in to the actual laptop (4pin sony)

be careful that you do not ruin the harddrive by unplugging it from the computer without clicking on the safely eject hardware icon in the system tray.  you can damage the harddrive if you don't eject it first.

it wont physically damage the hard-drive, but you run the risk of damaging data/files on that hard-drive

thanks for the clarification, i know that it is recommended to use the unplug wizard, but it never seemed to matter before.  i can see if the HD has music on it, then i'd probably follow the rules.  otherwise, it's a pc right, who needs rulez..
