Hello my friends
I am looking to get my brother a set of good mics for under 500.00. I saw the BSC1's and I am wondering if anyone owns them or has anything at all to say about them.
Thanks in Advance!!
Jeff

No worries, Piper.
I'm sure others will chime in with first-hand experience. But from the recordings I've heard online, the BSC1s seem to provide excellent value, i.e. good quality at a low price. In their price range, I think they're tough to beat -- especially if one has an interest in experimenting with different patterns (they come with omni, subcardioid, cardioid, and hypercardioid).
For an even smaller budget, there's also the Avant CK-1s, which come with omni, cardioid, and hypercardioid for a whopping $300/pr. I've used these once or twice and also felt they were a good value.
For what type of recording will your brother use the mics?
With what other gear?

Thanks again Brian!
I got him into a Sound Devices USBMIXpre 2. He is going to be using it in Stand alone mode as a Pre/AD most of the time.
He usually tapes Phish with me, but he also goes to a bunch of small bars in the detroit area and does recording.
His first gear consisted of a Microtack doing ALL the work (Pre and AD) using the M Audio Pulsars 2's.
Thoughts?

I love mine

I really like mine as well. The 4 caps are a big plus.

I really like how mine sound....especially the subcards.

they rock!

BSC1>USBPre2>MT......... looks good to me! I haven't heard the USBPre 2 yet, but I'm sure that rig will sound great and I would think that the BSC1's would match up well with the SD box....... and your brother will be very happy with it!!! Very very nice man!!!

gotta chime in. I'm a huge fan of my BSC1's. Also had a chance to run Chris's Large Diaphrams, and was pleasantly amazed :)

I am a big fan of mine. I think they sound much better than the price would indicate, and when paired with a good preamp can compete with mics that cost a lot more. And Chris is a really nice guy to deal with and is happy to answer questions and offer advice as to how to maximize the sound qualities of his product. I've run the subs, and cards so far. Plan on running the hypers tonight @ Stockholm Syndrome and hopefully experiment with the omnis this summer at Red Rocks or some outdoor festies.

I can vouch for these! :D Been using a pair I got for $200 in the yard sale for a couple years now. Avant even repaired one for no charge, even though I was the second owner! For $300, you can get some really nice recordings.
Many of these recordings were made with the CK1s: http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=tdwriter%20AND%20collection%3Aetree (http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=tdwriter%20AND%20collection%3Aetree)
