Title: TSKB: cap (long term) storage recs?
Post by: page on December 16, 2010, 01:48:28 AM
My last gig until almost mid-February was this past weekend, so I've got just under 8 weeks where I'll just be talking about and ogling over gear and not actually using it.  :P

So normally I store my caps in their windscreens with cable attached, I figured get one of those silicon packets as well, but should I store them in something *other* than the windscreens? I pull them off seasonally to make sure they haven't started to deteriorate, but I didn't know if there would be a static build up or a fungus among us sort of thing for long storage.

What say you people of expensive hobbies?

here is what I would do:
you must mean silca gel packets....
yes- and in an airtight container- pelican case - of similar food storage device with rubber gasket
or if none of those are available- a freezer ziplock
yes all with silca gel packets- which you can dry out in your oven - set at warm (lowest temp) or if its a gas oven with a pilot light place them in it while off over night- this will expel any previously accumulated moisture and ensure that are ready to reabsorb moisture again.

I always store my mics in  a pelican case with silca gel -  even between gigs, overnight or what ever.

also I always remove my wind screens for storage - to ensure full fluffiness!

Microphones must be used every week or they will go bad.  Get out and tape something. ;D

zman's will last forever then.

There just isn't anything I'm interested in taping nearby till February is all. Would you like to tape Keller Williams? Maybe so, but I can think of other things to do that evening.  :)
