im not exactly sure what they actually did here, wether it be a standard jack with a cable modified to a 1/8" mono jack like a ps-2. or wether they actually modified the internal jack in the laptop to be something more "standard"
i wont have my picturebook untill today, but am very interested in this to possibly be an easy & cheaper external power fix for festivals and such
can anyone actually tell what they did? anyone have any further info? i contacted the seller this morning, i hope they get back to me with some details.
this is the exact modle picturebook i will be getting in the mail today (c1vp)

It shouldn't be too hard.. The pbook runs on 11.1V, so any 12V battery should work. The easiest way to approach it IMO would be to hack off the end of the sony AC/DC adaptor that goes into the pbook, figure out the wiring scheme and solder those wires to the approriate pins on a 4 pin XLR, assuming you will be using a battery with a 4 pin recepticle. The Sony quad. cap battery is rated at 6.2Ah, so you need to make sure you find a battery with a similar capacity to ensure you have enough run time.

i was thinking maybe 12v 12ah sla's for festys and such
is that what they have done in the pic? chopped the original ac adapter and wired that connector to it?

that's most likely what they have done, I can't think of any other way to get a connector like that, can you?

in the auction they say:
Sony’s original adaptors are a weak point, fragile, bridle and causing burned out contacts. This unit is modified with an external power jack and includes 2 power adaptors (one for home and one for office)
looks like thats what they did to me, and then they added the 1/8" mono femals to the a/c adapters to plug into that cord
seems like i need to order an extra a/c adapter or a car charger to hack the cable and do this! but the things are so damn expensive

I forgot about it, but I think I do have one, somewhere.. I'll try to remember to look for it tonight.
