Title: Taping bluegrass in the worst conditions, need some ideas.
Post by: Nick in Edinboro on February 21, 2004, 03:07:14 PM
A friends bluegrass band (http://www.greatblueheron.com/gbh_bio_folder/bio_tigermaple.html) is playing tonight at a local pub.  They wish for me to tape....

Anyways, they play in the "dining" area which has a stage in the back left corner and then long tables with chairs and benches throughout the "floor".  Taping in the sweet spot equadistant from the PA won't be a possibility because the PA speakers aren't usually configured on both sides of stage and all the tables and people sitting at them talking (loudly).

They also have two monitors which they run in front.  There is two guitar players and a banjo player in the front row, two fiddle players and a stand up bass in the back.

I was thinking of doing something "stage lip" but not sure what config to use.  Tried previously to do a "stack tape" off of one of the PA's but it came out poorly.

Would be using MC012 card's....  I almost always run DIN but was thinking if XY or ORTF might be better for this situation.. Drop me a line with your feedback o' great TS.com ;D

They do sing some...  Ya, that ain't a probability.  While it sounds like a viable option it's too much work not enough time sorta thing.  Also not worth that much of my trouble :P

So let me change, if you had to run stage lip, which config think would be suited best?

I know I'm lazy :P HAHA!  ;)

It's just one of those "sure I'll tape you guys" kinda friends band, really don't care sorta deals.  I'm sure dozens of you out there know what I'm talking about.

If this was a venue I'd tape in regularly I'd definately look into a better options!

I'll try ORTF in dedication of moke :P  Thanks for the advice team!
