Title: m-audio mobile-pre?
Post by: Elana on February 22, 2004, 05:06:29 AM
My friend's MD just died.  I suggested she look into the mobile-pre because she has a laptop and it would be a lot cheaper than picking up a JB3 or similar device.

Had anyone field tested one of those?  Any problems?

I would tell her to get a UA5 but that's pretty much out of her price range.

does she need preamps or is just looking for something to use as an interface(for patching) to the laptop?

actually, she said she's gonna go with the njb3.  I just suggested it to her as a cheaper alternative.

I own a MobilePre....

In loud concert settings, it does a pretty decent job (rock shows, small clubs, etc.).

I've also used it to record a couple of classical/wind ensemble concerts - not very good in those situations.  The mic pre's are a bit noisy and give you a not-so-nice hiss if you try to boost the gain/volume.

Hope that helps!
