(didn't say it was cheap).

I can't remember if the edirol R-4 had digital out or just in. (the R-44 has out, but no hdd).

Plenty of Memory Card based recorders out there...  I use a Tascam HD-P2...

What do you need it for?
You could also set up a lappy rig with these specs.

For most usages, HDD is a disadvantage compared to solid state memory.
If you need huge storage space, consider swapping the hard disk for an SSD in that case.
