The R-09 *does* have a built-in recovery tool.

I know it works when you get a failure when the batteries go flat, I'm not sure about a deliberate deletion.

But read the manual and see what it says.

If that doesn't work, there are some recommendations on file recovery in the Computer Recording sticky:  http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=117279.0

The R-09's recovery funtion fixes corrupted files (re-writes the file header I think) but does not retrieve deleted ones. You'll need to use some sort of file recovery application.  I've used a couple suggested in the thread Brian mentioned with sucess, Photorec most recently.

Perhaps the Sandisk program called "RescuePRO" would work for you.  They usually include a free download serial number with all the Extreme and Extreme Pro cards that they sell.  I'm sure you could buy and download it from their website if necessary.

I don't have mine on-hand but I believe that the R09 should be using FAT32 for the file system.  You can use any FAT32 file recovery tool to recover deleted files if the drive has not been written since the file was marked deleted.  There are a bunch of free utilities that will do this for you.
