Title: Busman Audio BSC1 Active Setup
Post by: rockymtnryan on March 12, 2011, 11:10:44 AM
Have there been any recent developments regarding a Busman active setup?  I know Chris said the project has been in the works for some time but the cost of production is the main factor.  Are there any other options?  Does anyone in the community make a custom cable that I could use to link the caps and bodies > pre?  Dark Train?  Anyone?

I heard rumors that their is some hope to beta test them before summer is over.  Remember...only talk on the wind but just might be some foundation to it.  I do know that it is still a project that Chris wants to do.  It's not just talk and he is not going to let it fade away.  I suspect that some of the paperwork is already done, but I''m not sure where things are in the physical manufacturing world.

well, I guess I will let the cat out of the bag!!

I have the prototype of the actives ready and have a couple testers that will be receiving them shortly to use in the field.  These still needed a little tweaking but they are working protoypes that look great and I am sure I will have a full compliment of them ready within 6 months at the latest.
these prototypes are an always active mic solution where they will not be convertible back to the old style with capsule directly on the body.  The current BSC1 mics will need a retrofit to run this setup which is exactly what I had expected the whole time.  I am also getting a fix from my manufacturer on the capsule connection to the collette electronics so you will be able to change the capsules. They made a mistake and I needed to work up some extra design plans for this. So, because of the small redesign they will still be a couple months out on full production but it should be no more than that.

I will post some pictures of the setup soon for all to see.  As I said from the beginning, this is really a project I am working on and finally have just about finished.

so if i understand correctly
the caps you will be able to change but the active cable will be on the body 100% of the time

yes the cable setup will be a permanent thing.  If I can get the machining done here at some point in the future this will probably change to be just like Neumanns  or Schoeps.  Cost is the key factor here. I wanted to keep it in the affordable range.  pricing to follow soon along with the pictures.

So the input will still require P48? Or will the mod allow for low voltage?
