I cant find any info on how hot of a signal it can take ??? Id LOVE to replace my R09 w/ one of those bombproof-looking Tascams :)

@mhlsr - what's with the enormous avatar? :o It pretty much takes up the entire height of my screen.

I can't find it either, but if it is like its Tascam handheld brethren, I avoid it and stick with the Edirol or get a Sony M10 or D50. Just based on the expected max analog line in anyway, otherwise it could be nice. All the other Tascam handhelds can only take -4dbV or maybe +6dbV max.

Not even close on the x/y set-up.

I wouldn't blame Sony and the M10...I am pretty sure that a number of other recorders also have omnis, including the R09, the R09HR, and the PMD620. Probably makes sense in an inexpensive recorder too (easier to make a decent sounding small, cheap omni)...Probably some users find internal omnis useful, as they can just stick the recorder in the middle of the room and record their band or round-table or whatever.

right, i guess Sony wasn't the first. thanks for the correction.
personally i'd have preferred cardioids, as i'm usually aiming the unit towards whatever i want to capture. i would think this would be the case more often than not. handling noise is a more serious issue with omnis too. and finally, again for me, i'm almost always connecting external omnis so having inferior ones on board is of much less use.
on the other hand, Sony got so much right on this recorder and kept it a ridiculously good price point. i should keep my mouth shut ;D

I think handling noise is less of a problem with omnis than with cards...
This recorder probably has cards, though. The manual says cardioid and it would be sort of pointless to have adjustable position omnis. Probably just a website typo.
Also, why on earth did they put the external mic input between the internal mics? It looks like, using externals, you would have to have the internals in the bulkier AB position. They also dropped the ball on maximum input level again (-4 dBV)...

How does this stack up against players like the Sony M10 and the Tascam Dr-2d with respect to recording quality using the internal mics?

Theres a MILLION threads about that. Just do an advanced search ;)

hmm besides the effects + overdub thingy and the moveable mics nothing really more then the DR-05. So DR-05 better option me thinking ...
Not finding on the specs if that are the same mics as on the DR-05 ...

pretty sweet for the price. I don't know that i'd use the internal mics at all, so really it'd just be a 24 bit dump for me.
