I ran one of these for years I never brought more than a 7.2 amp and a 3 amp back up if i were runing an opener.  If I remember correctly they draw 1.8amp\hr that mean out of a new 7.2 amp 12v you should get a little over 3 hrs.  For most I only bring one good 7.2 amp.  The puple power light will start to flicker at 45min-1hr from complete shut down.

good to know.
i'll carry a 7.2 and a 5amp for luck
or would two 5amps be better...switching between sets?  hmmm...

Also, the controlls.
looks like you set a fixed amount of gain w/one knob, and then adjust that selected amount via the individuals?

whats  the verdict on soft limit?
I tend to like to run hot, so is it recomended?

are there two toslink outputs, or is one in and one out (i would guess)

run the adk on -10 , and NO soft limit.  you can run that thing HOT
and don't woory about your overs. i usually open the trim all the way
open (to the right) and back them off about a centimeter.  Don't ever run
it wide open on the trim(resistor knobs) b/c it will drop samples.
Now just use your pre to adjust levels.

this is how I have come out with the best results

the way the gain works is that there are two knobs one is right one is left, you have to turn each one to obtain gain for that channel, set the inital gain with the cal\mic knob, then use the other two for fine tuning.  I never liked to run my fine tune knobs more then at 2 o'clock.  Do not bump up gain on the cal\mic knob during songs as it is very apparent during listening.   if your interior jumpers are set correctly most people have them set so that your orange light is -2 red is over green is -6(I think)  Your green should almost always be on and the orange should bounce do not peg the orange for more then 2 seconds or so.  If you are hitting 1 and zero ocasionally durring loud passages with the soft limit on you are runing it right, if it is constanly hitting 0 on every bass hit you are too hot.  The soft limit if almost indistingishable when listening unless you really peg the shit out of it.  I used to run it all the time.  It kicks in at -2 dbjust in time to save you from the real loud passage and does not come into play on a constant basis if you are averaging -4db or so and peaking at 1db.
set sync source to crystal
set sample rate
set phatom toggle on if you need it
set other toggle to uv16
toslink out if on the outside conector(pretty sure)
I think that all folks!

if your interior jumpers are set correctly most people have them set so that your orange light is -2 red is over green is -6(I think).

The ad1k has internal jumpers you can set?

yes they are on top of the unit they control at what levels your lights will flash, if your large puple knobs control your gain for the pre or if they control the gan for they A\D, you can generate test tones such as aidio blak and 6db yatta, yatta, yatta.  They are accesable through the holes on top of the unit and you need a real small impliment like the end of a twezzers to flip them.  There are adbobe acrobat files that you can down load at apogeedigital .com that have the entire manual.  My previous post is all IMHO of course.
