Hello,
I've been out of the recording loop for quite some time now and starting to get back into it. Been using a couple of modded iriver h120s that have been just flawlessly awesome.
So here are a few questions...
Has anyone done any comparisons between the h120 and the sony m10, line in using 16bit similar to the h120? How is the quality of the M10 built-in mics? And the quality of the M10 built-in pre?
Do you know if while using both the h120 and M10 to record a show, will the two copies be bit identical provided that both are doing 16/44.1?
Are irivers still a good recording device now a days? If I get a M10, I may sell a 16gb CF mod, hi capacity battery mod, rockboxed H120 in excellent shape. What would that be worth these days?
Peace

You might get $100 for the CF modded unit.
In general, I'd say M10 > H120. The M10 has gotten great reviews from folks here. The bummer about it is that it doesn't have a digital in like the H120 does (the older brother, the PCM-D50 from Sony has the digital in), but otherwise it's generally been held in regard. Pay close attention to the volume wheel. Some folks on here don't like that the hold function doesn't apply to the volume wheel and have tried to correct that via gaffer tape, others aren't bothered by it. There are a couple of threads around on the topic. Best of luck.

If you are running analog the m10 will have a better ad, but why upgrade if you aren't going to running 24bit!

The irivers were great units. It sucks they are not made anymore. If you are going analog line in the M10 is a worthy upgrade. If you want to save a little longer and get the D50 then I will guarantee you will be pleased.
You can also consider the Tascam DR-2d. The battery life is not as good as the M10 but the pricing is similar and you have the dual record mode which can come in handy. I also prefer cardioids to omnis personally if you're using fixed mics. That's just opinion though.

I don't think the volume wheel on the Sony M10 is an issue at all. Although I NEVER ste%lth, so I can't comment on how it does when ste<hing. It will NEVER be an issue to me! I LOVE my new/used M10, and it has quickly become my fav recorder for our purposes ;)

I have never had an issue with the record wheel either on the M10 and I run lopro fairly often. I also have an iriver 120 which is still a great unit that I only use when running digi-in from my UA-5 when I run two rigs openly. I like the M10 a lot more. It is a lot easier to navigate around the menus for me than dealing with the rockbox menu on the iriver. I also like the 24bit ability of the M10.

Thanks for all of the good info! It seems that people really like the M10 so far. The 24bit ability is a definite plus and would run that often.
Might have to spring for the M10 asap!
Thanks again for the helpful info!
