so finally took the 24 bit plunge-nero told me that this software does everything-drops the wav. down to 16 bits, tracks, creates discs. Anyone have experience with this software? I called Nero twice and they were adamant that this software will dither, but I'm a little skeptical.

Have you checked out Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)?
