Rycote sell the back-to-back clips on their own.

They will hold any mic. from 19mm to 25mm and the shape includes the flat-sided Sennheiser MKH 20/30/40 series.

Oh - and that design of stereo mount was my idea.  I modified my own mount and Rycote liked the idea so much they decided to use it as their standard stereo suspension..

Thanks, great design John :clapping:

I'd like to use it for M/S with a pair of AKG s300's or one AKG s300 with a Sennheiser ME66.  Don't currently need it to do flat-sided Senn's as I don't own any.

I must be overlooking the Rycote part number for the "back-to-back mic clips" on their website, it looks like the way to go unless pricing is ridiculous.

Another option I found that might work is AKG's H300 priced at $80 USD though, which is really steep for what it is...

Pricing will be very reasonable.

Rycote have been redesigning them - the universal back-to-back clips are very new and they have been improving them with a rubber insert so the microphones cannot twist.

They should be available now, but when I last spoke to them they were not quite available.

I need three pairs myself for my own kits.

Drop an e-mail to Rycote in the UK to get confirmation of the part numbers and then get the price from your local agent.

Hard to find UK info on Rycote US website, will have to order from USA vendor anyhow so I'll just keep checking back.

I'm guessing they will look something like this...
from UK vendor Sound Exposure (http://www.soundexposure.com/store/Rycote_048457.html#a59_2d4066)

NO! - these are the old ones.

The old ones were very microphone specific and there were quite a few options depending on microphone size and shape.

The new ones fit everything.  :D

The new ones are in the picture in the OP - details are:-

Rycote part number: 048488 - new universal b2b clip (pair) - £9.50 +VAT retail in the UK.

I was going to try and get some of these to do a combination inside a Windsheild Kit 2, rather than the stereo 140mm baskets...

Thanks again John, any idea when US might get them?

The ones shown in the video are the pre-production prototypes.

The actual ones will have a soft-grip rubber lining to improve the grip on the microphones.

Rycote tell me that this is being finalised as we speak and the final versions should be in the shops about the third week of May - so, 3 - 4 weeks from now.

The only place I've been able to locate these in the USA so far is someplace called Posthorn Recordings.  Never heard of Posthorn Recordings before and their website is archaic as far as ordering goes so I'm leary about dealing with them.  Hoping to find these clips before long from a known mainstream dealer like B&H, Full Compass or Markertek etc.

I believe you'll find lots of satisfied Posthorn customers here on TS. While I've never dealt with them before Posthorn has been mentioned numerous times in relation to Vark bars and Schoeps mics and accessories. If that is the only place that listed them at the moment and I wanted that particular item I wouldn't hesitate to order from them.

as always, YMMV

Thanks Flipp, I've since noticed Rycote USA does list them as an authorized dealer.  Posthorn's website ordering really needs a makeover though.

This is the pre-production version.

The final version of the clips has a rubber insert - this holds the mic. tightly and is better for Nextel finished microphones - it also stops the mic. from rotating.

even as a pre-production version; they look pretty wild- there must be some stress on those things to open up.

That's what's so great about Rycote stuff isn't it?; the little revisions and tweaks; there's no element of their system that's too small not to be improved...- and they're never slow to revise things...

Really!!!  I ordered Rycote B2B Clips P/N 048488 from Posthorn Recordings in NY just last week, they are the only US Rycote dealer I could find listing the item.  The photo is exactly what was shipped to me, just received them 6/20/11.  Seems like they will get the job done okay but John, do you recommend returning them to exchange for the actual production models?

Personally I am waiting for the production ones with the rubber inserts before I get mine - but I thought the production version was available now.

The rubber inserts are certainly better for the flat-sided Sennheiser MKH microphones.

Would these be strong enough to support two delrin mounting bars - 4 channels of actives? I am looking for a way to cut down my current setup of two ultraclamps + two shure doughnuts and these back-to-back clips + a normal Rycote would be way cheaper than the Schoeps AMS 22.

so one INV-HG MKII ($62) paired with the Rycote B2B Clips Part# 048488 . should be the perfect solution for running 4 channels if you use the stereo bars like I make. plus the rubber grips in the clamp should prevent any rotating in the mount.

I think I prefer this for the following reasons:
1.  it is more centered in the mount
2. it looks more sturdy for when you stack two stereo bars.
3. has anti slip rubber to prevent rotation in the primary mount (the clips have rubber liner too).

So I thought long and hard about using these back-to-back clips for a 4-channel setup using the stereo bars. My conclusion is that it is not a good solution if you need to use windscreens. It might work if you're running delrin bars of differing lengths, but not at all if you're running 2 x 17cm bars and poorly if you're running 1 x 17cm and 1x 20cm.

Ultimately, I went with a K&M stereo bar oriented vertically with two Shure A51M's (or you could use A 20's). It works extremely well and allows as much vertical spacing as needed for windscreens.

I actually took that picture of the early production ones, it's what they sent me when I ordered.  They were hard to find and there were no pictures available of them at the time.  I thought I would be getting the ones with the inserts when I ordered.  Did the part number change to distinguish the difference?  If it didn't how do you know what you will get when you place an order?

They only sent out the naked ones while they were sorting getting the moulding of the rubber lining correct.

You can always give Rycote a shout and see if they'll swap them over.

Thanks, I sent a message to Rycote requesting to exchange them for the version with the rubber inserts.  I'm located in the USA and they only listed a UK number on their website.  Guess it took the a while to perfect manufacturing, maybe this is why they were difficult to locate when I ordered them.

edit to add:
Rycote UK re-directed me to Redding Audio in Wallingford, CT to handle the exchange.

Got the replacement rubber lined clips in the mail today  :)

Notice all the cables are managed neatly in the clamp

Someone had voice concerns about running a vertical address mount with another mount above or below it. Well the solution is to slightly stagger them without touching the shockmount

That is a slick setup!!   8) 8)  I have been debating buying the octava mount you linked for a similar setup.

don't even think about getting anything but this. the octava mount is about the same price but much larger and probably heavier.

Didn't realize they were so close in pricing!!  I'll look into the Rycote then.
