Title: Sennheiser md42 with sony m10 cable question

So I've been using the md 42 with the sony 10 but I have to turn the gain quite high to have it record audibly and as a result, the recording is often hissy and noisy. What kind of in line transformer would solve my needs?

This is a dynamic mic so it doesn't need phantom power.

How are you going from microphone to recorder?  The reason I ask is that this sounds like the same problem that tgos3 helped Chazz with in the PCM-M10 thread (part 4, pages 20-22).  In that case, a Hosa XVM-105F solved the problem...

Yeah, I was thinking that too but I wanted to keep the cable I had but the only option may be the Hosa XVM-105F.

xlr to stereo 1/8" Its a mono mic but m10 doesn't record in mono.

but I already have a shure A96F which seems like the identical thing but its still not in line and using the cable I already have.
