I'm just starting out and would like to have something decent for a show I'm going to this week. I don't have the luxury of time obviously, but I just realized that Sound Professionals are in NJ and so I can actually pick my order up.
The show is a rock concert and I'm going to be outside and up front. Having been to this venue before, I know it's likely there will be a bit of wind and there will definitely be a lot of douchebaggery going on (e.g. the shouting drunks). I'll definitely have to go stealth as well. Which mics from SP (omni, cardoid, model?), if any, would you recommend?
Thanks for any help/advice.
p.s. I actually don't even have the recorder yet, but that part is easy. The Sony M10 seems to be the most highly recommended so that's probably the way I will go. Not sure hwo to get that through a pat-down but that's another thread ...

SP CMC-8 cards are the go for load/rock shows.....get one of their preamps too with adjustable gain and you are good to go

^^ Agree, I'd say the CMC8 is the most versatile system. If you're going to be outdoors and up close, you can start out with the CMC-8 omni caps and then get the other caps as needed. The CMC-8 cards are a touch on the thinner side, but they sound nice and clear. If you don't like the sound of them you can also buy an adapter and run the CMC-8 bodies with the CMC-4 (aka AT 853) caps, which have much better bass response.
I liked my CMC-8s a lot. Great mics. Make sure to get a battery box and order the "4.7k" mod.
Also, for >:D work they make a custom-made cap which is very handy with the omni mics.... (not usable with the cards)
