Title: Can AT853's be converted from XLR>1/8" stereo?
Post by: Matt Quinn on May 16, 2011, 11:00:29 AM
I got a pair of 853s as part of my Schoeps sale, but I totally forgot that some of them are phantom powered. I was just looking for a mini set of mics to run low profile directly into my Marantz 620, so I'd love to terminate the pair to a single 1/8" stereo plug. I assume it's possible, but I'm no DIY'er, so if anyone can point me toward someone who can do the re-cabling,that would be great.

Pretty sure Church or Sound Pros can do this for you easily.  I might at least ask Sound Pros first since they actually sell these mics and are cheaper to ship to.

You might also ask them to do the "low sensitivity" mod also.

What is that all about?

Its  mod I developed that other companies are now charging for. The mod allows you to record loud shows with the AT mics and have them terminate to 3.5 mm. The other option is to get me to terminate them to mini xlr and get my 9200 or 9100 preamp with the 4.7k mod built in this allows to run the mod on for loud shows and off for quiet shows. With my 9200 preamp this option would give you quite a bit of flexibility.
