Hi all!
I just recently recorded using my set of MM HLSC-1 cards with some windscreens + they were mounted under some thicker textile fabrics.
I know this microphone lacks some bass response to begin with but I found the result this time to be even more bright (and sharp in an unpleasant way) than usual. Does the windscreens + the textile fabrics filters some frequencies more than others? Would be nice to hear some theories how this mounting alters the sound.
Thanks!
N.

I'd think the opposite- screens should muffle the highs, not emphasize. At least that's my experience.

ditto

Yes I agree that the sound should get more muffled in general, but does the windscreens + textile fabric also increase the roll-off?
I found the recording very thin on bass this time.

FTFY :)

Fabric windshields do change the sound.
It all depends on the design as to how much they change the sound - some are a lot worse than others.
The Rycote seems to change the sound the least as they have done a lot of research on this - down to hair type, size, length and how they are fixed to the backing.

I ran the big ass shures (A81WS) with dead muppets (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=137563.msg1876291#msg1876291) at Mountain Jam. Wind is worse than frequency loss. Here a couple of recordings for reference. I was pleased with the results and there is plenty of bottom end.
