Title: HEADPHONE OUTPUT TO LINE IN ON R09-HR
Post by: pepper on July 08, 2011, 04:05:00 AM
After racking my brains and trying to get my usual way of transferring tapesto work ( tape 2 pc /audacity ),ive decided on this method. Its mainly for my own benefit, but would these be allowed to be shared at sites such as dime and the traders den etc,if not i wont lose sleep over it.

I generally take a line out from the back of the tape deck (RCA>1/8" cable).

I know that doesn't answer your question, but it's probably the right way to do it with a full size tape deck.

Exactly what are you trying to transfer?  I've transferred cassettes straight from the tape deck - RCA out - line in on R09/R09HR.  No issues at all.  Done the same with taping off of my Sirius satellite radio receiver.

Not sure what issue you expect to have with TTD/DIME regarding these transfers.

list UNKNOWN LINEAGE... I know there won't be any issues on DIME because they except about anything  ::)
as far as TTD... I detest that site, so I can't tell you

I have patched people out of the headphone jack on my R4 dozens of times.  And I've patched my R09 or H120 just so I have a smaller package to listen to on the way home.  Seems to work fine.  Why would I do that over RCA's?  Normally I wouldn't, but sometimes I have multiple patchers, or that's what we have for cables, or in the case of a particular guy with his minidisk, he likes be able to adjust my headphone volume to set his levels.

I think using "line out" from whatever box is probably preferable if it's available, just because the output impedance probably matches the input impedance of the R09HR input better than headphone jack, but if you are transferring from something that only has a headphone out, I don't see a problem.

Well i wasnt sure if they would have any problem with the way it was transferred thats all.

line out and headphone impedance are different and will give a slightly less desirable signal via headphone out.  I'm sure someone more educated than myself could tell you specifics like highs VS lows and effects on dynamic range etc.  But line out is better especially for copying and distribution.

Well, if you only have a HP out, then I'd say its fine to use ;)
