Just thought I'd test the current thinking on what most people's "go to" mic brand of choice is these days. Many of us run multiple systems or own something as a backup, but it shouldn't be too hard to figure out what you take out of your bag most often. This is not your opinion about what is best - strictly just what you use the most. I think I covered most of the most popular types, but if something big is missing let me know.

I own several sets (including 4 other brands on this list), but it's the Audio Technica 4051's that see the most action. Easy setup, versatile, and sound great (especially with the new V3).

Forgot MBHO :P ;D

looks like it is between AudioTechnica and Gefell to me

Only 2 Neumanns?
Otherwise, not very surprising so far...

Where is Sennheiser?

Where is Sennheiser?
Yes - Sennheiser is what I use most.
I have about 16 Sennheiser mics.
Plus - 6 Neumanns, 2 AKGs, 2 Beyers, 2 Calrecs, a Soundfield and several more.
Yes - and Soundfield is also missing!

Berliner
CA
and soon to be Busman

Only 2 Neumanns?
I didn't answer the poll because for me it's hard to choose by make and not model.
The mic I always reach for is a TLM170 unless I need to be small then I reach for the 4023s. I have the small neumanns but grab the DPAs. The tlm170 and km1xx have very different characteristics. So it's hard to just pick Neumann. Depending on the situation I have a different answer.

Nevaton MC49s always come out first and it's rare to take them down. When I had Schoeps, AKG, Neumann, Gefell, etc. they usually ended up staying in the bag.
A close second was the Milab DC196, because I really liked the figure 8 sound it provided.

I wonder what percentage of us have more than one set of mics. I have 2, but not for choices based on sound. I have a open set, and a not so open set of mics (Beyers and Nevatons).
Anyway...I voted Beyer...but in reality it's pretty close (especially lately where it seems that I've been to a lot of stealth shows).

D'oh! Didn't intend to slight Sennheiser (or Nevaton, for that matter)....
Score a few more votes for "something not listed"
I'm surprised AKG is not in the lead given the broad range of their line in price, type and functionality, their overall agreeable pricing, and their seeming ubiquity in the YS....

Funny you mention AKG... As far as which I use most, there's a very slim margin between DPA's and AKG's. But, the 414's take it by a hair.
